6 Keys to Guarantee Biblical Wealth and Prosperity

6 Keys to Guarantee Biblical Wealth and Prosperity By .

Last week my pastor asked me to teach the Wednesday night service at our church while he enjoyed himself at Bike Week in Florida. I’ve learned not to panic anymore when he asks, but it can certainly be a little intimidating to get up in front of people to teach. I’ve gotten much more comfortable with it over the years though. So I decided to talk about what I know best, which is biblical wealth and prosperity.

Of course I don’t claim to be a world renowned expert on the subject, but I do have many years of experience teaching what the bible has to say about it.

If you like, you can scroll down to the middle of this post and watch the video of my teaching.

Wealth and Prosperity- A Touchy Subject

Talking about wealth and prosperity in the church is one of those subjects that tend to get used and abused on a regular basis.

On one hand there are some who teach that if you just believe hard enough, you can have all the wealth and prosperity you could ever want. Of course, belief and faith are one part of the equation, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

On the other hand some preachers try to convince you that being wealthy, successful, and prosperous are something to be avoided- that the poorer you are, the more humble you are and the closer to God you become.

Does God Want You to Be Wealthy?

But where does the truth lie when you’re talking about prosperity and wealth in the Bible? How does it relate to your spiritual walk and your relationship with God?

Does God even want us to be wealthy and prosperous, or are we better off spiritually if we stay away from it?

As it turns out, the Bible has a lot to say about wealth and prosperity. It actually puts forth several key things you can do to achieve the righteous wealth and prosperity that God actually does want us to have.

In fact, if we follow the prescription we find in the scriptures, He has no choice but to give us a level of prosperity that fulfills our every need, plus guarantees an excess that we can use to bless others with.

The Definition of Prosperity

Before I delved into what the Bible had to say about it, the first thing I decided to do is to look up the definition of prosperity. So I looked up the Webster’s definition along with several versions found in Greek and Hebrew. Here are some of the characteristics of prosperity that I found:

  • Plenty
  • To be over and above, to abound
  • Advance or gain in anything good or desirable
  • Deliverance, salvation
  • Peace
  • More than enough
  • Successful progress in business or enterprise
  • Completeness, soundness
  • Good fortune

As you can see, prosperity is not all about money. Prosperity consists of so much more than that. It’s a comprehensive, all-encompassing variety of good things for your life, finances included!

Here’s What I Found in the Bible

In my study, I found 6 key things you can do to make sure that God opens up the windows of heaven for you and provide you with a blessed life that most people could only dream about.

Therefore, as I list each one I’ll have a few scriptures to back it up. This is a fairly long and comprehensive study on the subject, but I know you’ll appreciate the revelations you receive as you get into it!

6 Keys to Prosperity and Wealth in Every Part of Your Life

There are 6 key things I found that you can do to bring godly wealth and prosperity into your life. I’m sure there are others that I could include, but these seem to be the ones that crop up over and over in the scriptures. Here’s the list:

  • Diligence
  • Seek God in Everything
  • Seek Righteousness
  • Keep His Commandments (Walk in His Ways)
  • Honor God With Your Wealth
  • Develop Your Faith (Trust) in God

So let’s get started…

One of the first things I discovered that you must do to get God’s blessings upon you is to practice DILIGENCE.

Now, when the Bible refers to diligence in these scriptures, it’s referring to consistency and hard work. The definition of diligence I found on Google reads “careful and persistent effort”

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God.”

Key Phrases:

  • Diligently obey
  • Observe carefully
  • Overtake you

Listen to what God has to say- in His word as well as in direct communication with Him (prayer). Be diligent to observe His commandments and He will set you above others that don’t. Do these things and His blessings will overtake you because you are diligently obedient.

“…the LORD does not allow the righteous go hungry, But He thwarts the craving of the wicked. A slack hand causes poverty, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.”

Key Phrases:

  • The righteous won’t go hungry
  • Be diligent in pursuing God and Godly things, and He will reward you
  • Lack of diligence causes you to come to poverty

When you’re being diligent to pursue righteousness God will see to it that you are fed. Diligence makes one rich (prosperous in every way). However, lack of diligence will cause you to come to poverty (lack of prosperity).

“The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.”

  • Desire without work will never allow you to have anything
  • Diligence makes you rich (prosperous)

Wishing will get you nowhere, but hard work and consistent effort will always benefit you and your situation. God sees your diligence and rewards you for it instead of simply granting empty wishes to someone not willing to do the work necessary.

Seeking God in everything goes along with diligence, in that seeking God should be a constant in your life if you want God to consistently bless you and your situation.

2 CHRONICLES 31:20-216 Keys to Biblical Wealth and Prosperity

“Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.”

Key Phrases:

  • Did what was good
  • All his heart

Hezekiah sought God, did what was good, and served Him with all his heart. When you are a seeker God in every situation and you’re faithful, God will cause you to prosper in the same way.

PSALM 1:1-3

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly; nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Key Phrases:

  • Delight in the law of the Lord

Standing as a sinner, being scornful, and taking the advice of ungodly people are all things that keep you from accessing God’s blessings. But when you set your heart and mind on godly things you are constantly nourished, always fruitful, and whatever you do prospers because you have that Godly blessing upon you.

You will be constantly fed. You’ll be fruitful in due season. You will not wither when things get tough (in a dry season). You will prosper in everything you do when you consistently seek godly things.

Righteousness simply means being in right standing with God.

PSALM 37:25-26

“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed”

Key Phrase-

  • not seen the righteous forsaken

Righteousness is a state of moral uprightness that can only be achieved through belief in Jesus and God’s plan of salvation. Being righteous doesn’t mean you’re perfect, but it does mean you follow God’s ways and believe in salvation. You are always seeking God’s ways and living them out in your own life.

When you practice righteousness:

  • God will never forsake you
  • You won’t be in poverty, your children won’t have to beg to meet their needs
  • You’ll have the ability to be merciful to people
  • You will be lender, not a borrower
  • Your seed will be blessed- meaning it will multiply and flourish, meeting all your needs to the point of excess

PROVERBS 8:18-21

“Riches and honor are with me: yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment; That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.”

Key Phrase:

  • Durable riches and righteousness

Walking in God’s path for your life brings riches and honor. This means riches in everything, not just material wealth. He leads you into righteousness, and when you follow His lead you will have durable riches as well.

  • Durable Riches- Wealth that is gotten in righteous ways is lasting wealth, and will be an inheritance to your children’s children

Keep His Commandments (Walk in His Ways)

Keeping God’s commandments (walking in His ways) is a very important part of leading a good Christian life, but does it result in wealth and abundance?

PSALM 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.

So when you allow yourself to be led by the Lord, you will never lack for anything.

1 KINGS 2:3

David’s Instructions to Solomon as He Was Dying

“And keep the charge of the LORD your God, walking in His ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, His rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and wherever you turn…”

Key Phrases:

  • Walking in His ways
  • Thou may prosper in all that you do

When you do Godly things and follow Godly ways you will prosper in everything and whichever way you turn. David gave these instructions to Solomon (who followed them) and ended up being known as the wisest and wealthiest man who ever lived!

PSALM 84:11-12

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly…”

Key Phrase:

  • sun and shield

Walking uprightly in the way of the Lord allows God to light your way (sun) and protect you (shield). It allows Him to extend you grace when you need it, and allows Him to bring ALL good things your way.

“If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing; you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.”

Key Phrases:

  • walk in my statutes
  • yield fruit

Walk in my statutes, keep my commandments- I’ll provide the rain that produces growth and abundance for what you have planted. You’ll have abundance from one harvest that will continue to the next harvest. You will have more than enough.

Honor God With Your Wealth

God is a Giver. We are made in God’s image, so we are made to be givers too. God knows we function at our best when we give of what we have, and he rewards us for it.

Proverbs 10:22

“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.”

Key Phrases- Blessing of the Lord

Of course, God is a giver of blessings. How do you get the blessings of the Lord upon you? By following His ways, being diligent, seeking Him, seeking righteousness, etc., He has to bless you. He has no other choice- His blessings make you wealthy in every aspect- He gives it to you freely and joyfully without condemnation.

“Honor thy Lord with your wealth, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”

Key Phrases: Honor the Lord

There are many ways to honor the Lord (worship, good works, upright living…) but this one specifically says to do it with your substance (your wealth). Giving the first fruits (tithe) is part of this, but also using your wealth in righteous ways (family, charity, etc.) is also included. Doing these things not only allows you to have enough, you’ll have an excess.

“then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…”

Key Phrases:

  • My power
  • He gives you power

Remember that all wealth comes from God. He gives you the power to generate wealth, be it a little or a lot. Recognizing that wealth is gained through His power and not yours allows you to stay humble.

This recognition opens up the doors for Him to bless your hard work. Leaving God out of the equation limits the blessing you get from all your hard work. He can’t multiply it unless you believe that ultimately it all comes from Him.

“Whoever brings blessing will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.”

Another form of giving is just being a blessing to others, which opens up God’s ability to see to it that you are blessed in return.

Malachi 3:10-12

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field, Says the LORD of hosts. And all nations will call you blessed For you will be a delightful land, Says the LORD of hosts.”

Key Phrases

  • Bring the tithe into the storehouse (Give to the church)

What Tithing Does:

  • opens up the windows of Heaven
  • Rebukes the devourer (instead of living paycheck to paycheck, you’ll have enough)
  • Won’t destroy what you have (fruit) or your harvest that is on the way (vine)
  • Others will call you blessed

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Key Phrases:

  • Sow
  • Reap
  • cheerful giver

Giving is like spreading seed– if you only spread a few seeds, you get only a few plants and a small harvest. Sowing very little means you reap very little (you’ll just barely get by). A sparse harvest will cause you to consume all your seed instead of putting some back for more sowing.

On the other hand, spreading more seed gets you a bigger harvest, producing an excess that allows you to sow even more, gaining an even larger harvest.

Be cheerful when you give. Negativity about giving actually cancels out your blessing. Always sow happily in anticipation of a great harvest.

Develop Your Faith (Trust) in God

Trusting God to do what His word says He will do is extremely important to gaining godly prosperity and wealth. If you can’t trust God to live up to His word, then why do you believe in the first place?

JAMES 1:5-7

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and up-braideth not: and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, not wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think he shall receive any thing of the Lord.”

Key Phrases:

  • Gives to all men liberally
  • he that wavers

Ask of Him, and He will give to you liberally. You must ask in faith and not waver. Being unsure about God’s promises will not allow you to receive His liberal gifts to you.

MATTHEW 6:31-33

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink: or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Key Phrases:

  • Take no thought
  • seek first

Don’t sit around worrying about food, clothing, or basic needs. Have faith, and trust that God knows what you need and that He will provide it when you seek Him first.

PSALM 37:3-5,11

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

Key Phrases:

  • Trust in the Lord
  • Delight in the Lord
  • commit

Trust means you should have faith that He is on your side and will work on your behalf. Complete trust in God is a very difficult thing to do, but when you give it all over to Him, that’s when He can do His best work for you.

Delight in the Lord- Commune with God often and experience the joy that comes with that communion.

Commit- Don’t be double minded or wishy washy. Non committed people don’t get very far at anything in life or with God

So do these things and He will give you the desires of your heart. He will bring it to pass.

TAKEAWAYS: 6 Keys to Ensure Prosperity and Wealth

  • Diligence- Careful and persistent effort- consistent hard work- The key to all the other keys below is to be diligent in doing them
  • Seek God in Everything- Always seek to please God and delight in His ways. Seeking His guidance and will in your life allows Him to guide you and bless you.
  • Seek Righteousness- Always seek to live an upright life and you’ll be blessed because of it.
  • Keep His Commandments (Walk in His Ways)- Know what God’s ways of doing things are, and when you live by those ways you’ll be greatly blessed.
  • Honor God With Your Wealth- Be a tither, and give offerings over and above the tithe. We are made in the image of God to be givers, and when we do it opens up windows for God to do huge things in our lives!
  • Have Faith and Trust in God- Giving every concern over to God is a hard thing to do, but when you do it allows Him to act on your behalf better than you could ever do for yourself. Trust that what His word says will come to pass when you do the right things.

The 6 Keys to Wealth and Prosperity

I’m sure there are plenty of other things you can do to ensure God’s blessings and prosperity upon your life. But I think these are 6 of the most important keys to godly prosperity and wealth, especially since you can find them repeatedly in scripture throughout both the New and Old Testaments.

Of course, these are spiritual laws that the more you follow them, the more you’ll find that you’re blessed in every area of your life, including monetary wealth.

God Can’t Do it Without You

The most important thing you have to understand is that God can’t do it without you. His nature is to bless you when you’re doing the right things. When you’re not, His hands are tied and He can’t bless you like He wants to.

So remember to use these 6 keys if you want open up the windows of heaven and experience all the wealth and prosperity God promises we can have!

DOING BUSINESS GOD’S WAY: Four cornerstones and three key principles

DOING BUSINESS GOD’S WAY: Four cornerstones and three key principles. The following is excerpted from Doing Business God’s Way, in which author Santiago Rivera teaches business owners how to allow their connection with God to help them achieve their entrepreneurial goals. Business people walking toward light - Doing business God's way

The four cornerstones

Doing business God’s way includes four cornerstones that will help you move into the light of universal laws, which must happen before we begin the entrepreneurial work of creating a business or expanding an established business.

The first cornerstone is the utilization of the Bible as the learning tool for God’s principles to create, expand and maintain any business on this Earth. With the Bible, we acquire the natural power within us to develop the bright light God gives us into success, prosperity and love.

As God reveals in detail His principles to you, a traditional business plan must follow to maintain the business idea.

Remember, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” With this phrase, God empowers and allows you to comply with the forces of traditional business methods, using His principles to control the success of your destiny and the overall success of the Kingdom.

The second cornerstone recognizes and accepts that it is all about Him, and for Him.

To state it simply, our mundane ways of doing business do not work for us. During the application of the second cornerstone, you will be rewarded with power from God.

The ideas created by our ego and extenuated business plans that we make on our own will not lead us to the place of blessing, where we will have an abundant life in glory. God never intended for us to be able to “handle” life on our own, but designed it in such a way that we must depend on Him.

Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts shall be established. The Lord has made all for Himself, yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

(Proverbs 16:3-4 NKJV)

Doing business for Him is the most open yet hidden secret on the Earth of doing business God’s way. God’s blessings are a supernatural empowerment of His goodness and love for you. He wants to take you to another level of grace, love, abundance and success.

When we do any business for Him, He will outdo himself every time, as He is revealing the ideas, and giving us the tools, talents, abilities and resources needed to receive abundance from Heaven.

Our Creator is amazing. He wants us to live in the fullness of the blessing. He anointed our head with the holy oil and made our cup run over to bless others.

As you receive a direct connection with God, He will move you forward from barely making it in business to having more than enough. He will present and open doors in a supernatural way. He will position your name with the right people, in the right places and at the right time.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

(Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV)

The power that works in us is our desire to connect with Him, do business for Him and with Him.

The third cornerstone recognizes that God does not play games.

He never wants to deal with false promises, sin or misplaced priorities. He knows you from the end to the beginning.

God does not allow for negotiating. When we follow His ways, we live an abundant, successful and blessed life.

To apply this in practical business terms, look into your heart and recall the deeper business dream. Think of all we would expect to do upon opening a business. There are hundreds of logistic details that need to be decided on before the doors open.

It is always wise to get advice from the Creator of all, a God who has experience and fulfills promises. In this third cornerstone, you will have acquired power from your environment.

To complete the equation for success in business, the last cornerstone is your trust in Him.

Your trust requires you to believe in Him and follow Him. As you believe in His promises, you will be able to follow his business practices, and your soul will create a bond of trust.

Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

(Jeremiah 17:5-6 NKJV)

Sadly, as problems arise, more trust is placed in society’s systems and technologies rather than God, and that leads to disappointment and loss of finance, family, friends and even the business itself. Trust means to believe in and rely on, regardless of the situations that arise—business-wise or personally.

We cannot say we believe in God, yet refuse to accept and embrace his principles that will bring change and reformation.

The Bible says, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” There is no limit to what God can and will do if you dare to believe in Him.

Give God your unconditional trust and faith to work with Him.

The three principles

As we focus on all the cornerstones of doing business God’s way, and bring them together, let’s look at 1 Corinthians 1:27.

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.

(1 Corinthians 1:27 NKJV)

This means the way God does things will sound totally foreign to all of us because His ways are opposite to our earthly approaches. Since most of us grew up in the worldly business system, His approach sounds different from what we have been taught and observed.

There are three basic principles of doing business God’s way.

The first principle is that no debt is needed to develop and run your business—ifyou use God’s way.

When He reveals the dream of a business adventure to you, He will put the tools and resources in your hands to make it happen. No doubt about it.

The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall NOT borrow.

(Deuteronomy 28:12 NKJV)

When we take a business loan without any personal guarantee, we are not operating in the blessing of God, according to Deuteronomy 28:12. In fact, there are no scriptures within the Bible in which God commands someone to take a loan based on His direction.

The second principle tells us we must not neglect family for business.

Father working on laptop - Doing business God's way

With this principle we need to define the word “family.” According to Dictionary.com, (2014) “the family is a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not: the traditional family.”

In today’s modern society, the family has undergone significant transformations in its structure. The family is a social unit and can be described as “nuclear” if residing in the same household.

God wants to impart on us a clear understanding of His authority and His plan for us. He chose to reveal Himself and the clear purpose of His will in our soul.

Having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Himself.

(Ephesians 1:9, NKJV)

Through Jesus, the Word made flesh; we have access to the Father and can share in the divine nature of the Holy Spirit. Through this revelation, therefore, God out of the abundance of His love speaks to men as friends (John 15:14-15) and lives among them, so He may invite and take them into fellowship with Himself.

By this revelation then, the deepest truth about God and the salvation of man shines out for our sake in Jesus, who both are the mediator and the fullness of all revelation.

The traditional structure of a family is crucial to other universal laws, human cornerstone principles, and teachings in the Bible. It is also important to understand what God wants from us to glorify Him, and not the family.

As you glorify Him and offer Him everything you do, He will pour blessings to you to overflow and pass into your family and future generations.

This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behaviour, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence.

(1 Timothy 3:1-4 NKJV)

1 Timothy 3:1-4 applies directly to Christian entrepreneurs who want to do business God’s way, because we are overseers of God’s works in business on this Earth.

If God has given you the vision to start or expand a business, the business you start is His work, and you are the overseer, or as we call it in the business world, the Chief Executive Officer.

If you neglect your family in time, space, and support, your life will not be successful.

The third and last principle in doing business God’s way is remembering not to labour to be rich in business.

Then, how do we make it?

Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!

(Proverbs 23:4 NKJV)

How, as a new business owner, can you become successful without working hard? Well, let’s first look at the definition of working.

It is defined as the physical, mental and spiritual work causing you extreme fatigue and frustration.

What I want you to focus on is fatigue and frustration. When you are working according to this definition (and the usage of this word in the Proverbs 23:4), the production of that work comes at the price of fatigue and frustration. It makes us feel devastated, as if we’ll never see the light at the end of the tunnel.

While working in our new business to be successful, according to Proverbs 23:4, we are leaning on our free will and ego instead of on God’s wisdom.

However, if you are connected with God, the Holy Spirit that lives inside of you will direct and guide you to focus and see success and prosperity with purpose.

As you trust God more and more each day to guide you in your business, declare boldly His word, meditate on His promises, listen to Him, expect natural and supernatural events in your life, and put Him first because your business should be done by His will.

In your prayer, be bold for God and confess with your mouth, soul and mind that you know with Him all things are possible. Tell Him every day you choose to stand solid in faith, that you trust Him, and you choose to receive every blessing He has for you.

Blessed be it! In the name of His son Jesus, you are asking, you are expecting, and thanking Him because you are receiving. Amen!

Breaking the Spirit of Poverty

Having a relationship with Jesus certainly doesn’t mean we’ll be free of problems or struggles. Life can be tough, and even as Christians, we’ll face many challenges.

Before we were saved, we were no threat to the devil. But when we accepted Jesus into our heart, something changed. We took up a new residence in the spiritual battlefield and immediately became an enemy of Satan.

Many of our battles, struggles, and trials in life are rooted in the spiritual realm. As a result, war must be waged on the spiritual battlefield and fought with spiritual weapons.

Overcoming poverty is one example of this principle. Jesus taught us that the devil is a THIEF who comes to steal and destroy God’s blessings in our life (John 10:10). Many Christians unnecessarily suffer financial lack simply because they don’t understand the nature of the spiritual battle they’re in.

Your Father’s Blessings

God is a good God. Our Heavenly Father wants to bless us, and He would never send us into battle unequipped. He has given us His Word as “the sword of the Spirit” to overcome the lies of the enemy (Ephesians 6:17). Something happens when we put the Scriptures in our heart and mouth and begin to point them at the enemy.

Remember, victory over poverty is already yours. Through His death on the Cross and His Resurrection, Jesus has destroyed ALL “the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). But now He calls on you to enforce that victory by declaring His promises over your life.

The Apostle Paul wrote that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). Through the truth of God’s Word, you have been given dominion over financial lack and every other stronghold in your life. So go ahead and let the enemy know he no longer has permission to harass you!

Defeating Satan’s Lies

Scripture tells us that the devil is “the father of lies” (John 8:44). Many Christians have believed the lie that God wants them to experience lack instead of abundance. Yet God wants to replace that lie with the truth that He wants you to PROSPER and be in health (3 John 1:2)!

If you’re a child of God, the devil has no rights in your life. But you must move into an offensive position and take back anything the enemy has stolen. Boldly speak to your circumstances, reminding them that you are a child of the King and a joint heir with Christ. Your words create your realities, so make sure they line up with God’s Word.

Don’t stop pressing in until you experience the victory you’ve been promised. Make sure you are taking steps of faith—Sowing financial Seeds in anticipation of God’s abundant Harvests in your life.

In Jesus’ name, you have power over the devil, but he’s not going to give up without a fight. You must realize the authority God has given you and lay an ax to the roots of poverty and financial lack.

May God awaken the mighty warrior inside of you, so you can pull down strongholds in your own life and then go to battle on behalf of your loved ones.

How Do I Get Out of Poverty and Debt?

Poverty is a lack of money or material possessions. Poverty is usually accompanied by debt obligations to others. Debt, whether or not associated with poverty, is a form of slavery. Following God’s principles will break the hold of both poverty and debt.

How to overcome the spirit of poverty

First of all, you must commit yourself, your finances, your family, and your life to Jesus Christ. Agree to live by God’s principles and seek to know what He has to say to you in your situation. Be absolutely honest about the faults and mistakes in your life, past or present, that may have caused your problem of debt. To escape trouble, you must know what put you there.

How to overcome the spirit of poverty

Second, do everything you can to understand God’s principles. The Bible says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). There are many Christians who have no concept whatsoever of the principles of God’s kingdom. They understand neither God’s laws dealing with material prosperity nor their own privileges as children of God. So, for lack of knowledge, they suffer.

People in debt or in poverty especially need to understand a rule of God’s kingdom that I call the Law of Reciprocity. This is a law of cause and effect, of action and reaction. In the area of money, the law is simple: “Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38). When a person begins to give to God’s work and to the poor and less fortunate, God begins to give back to him. Regardless of the debt burden, a person should give a very minimum of 10 percent of his income to the Lord. Even if you are at a poverty-level income, you have something you can give to God. Start where you are. Reach out in compassion to those less fortunate than yourself. As a first priority, get into a position to give love, time, energy, and money to other people even if it is only a little bit.

How to overcome the spirit of poverty

Next, set up a realistic budget. Most people do not have budgets, and their spending has neither plan nor control. Whatever your income level, you should set up a budget that includes one or more tithes plus offerings to the Lord, which may be in the form of aid to those who are less fortunate (see Malachi 3:10). After setting aside your tithe, establish a realistic plan to pay off your debts. Go to your creditors and obtain an agreement that they will accept your payment schedule. Make it understood that you cannot pay any more than a certain amount, and they will almost always accept your plan.

Once you have done that, you have to resolve in your mind that there will be no more accumulation of debt. You cannot go back to living beyond your means. Make a vow to God that you will not buy anything on credit, and that your lifestyle will be curtailed to fit your income. This takes a definite mental and spiritual commitment. It may take a year, or two years, or five years, but you are going to get out of debt.

It has been suggested by a very wise businessman that part of any budget should go for recreation. There should be some time each month when the family can get away from the pressures of life. Maybe it can be a picnic in the park, a fishing trip, or possibly a night away from home in a motel or resort. Recreation includes anything to get away from the constant pressure and to allow your mind to be recreated in God.

Along with recreation, I recommend a Sabbath rest. You cannot work seven days a week. There must be one day a week that is dedicated to God, to thinking about Him, praying to Him, studying the Bible, and resting. All of these things are necessary to prepare your mind and spirit to win the battle.

Then, with all of these things going for you, you need a renewed faith in God. He is the source. As you give to Him and trust Him, God will begin to take you from bondage to debt into His blessings. He will open doors for you and will give you concepts and ideas to help you overcome your situation. You must believe this and expectantly look for His answer rather than to some other person as your source. God is your source.

How to overcome the spirit of poverty

Every day, speak words of confidence. Say out loud that you are going to be free from debt and that God is going to put you in a different position. Memorize scripture verses where God says things such as, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes” (1 Samuel 2:8). Speak these words over and over again, confidently, knowing that God can do all things and do them well.

With that frame of mind, you should be on your way. It may take a year to pay off your debts. In the instances that I know of, the average was about eighteen months. But it may take three, four, or even five years. You will win the battle if you use the weapons that God has made available to you! You can be debt free!

Angels appear in church during a LIVE Service – Prophet Shepherd Bushiri.

On the 13th of September 2015, during a Live Sunday Service, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1 prayed for the congregation on behalf of those who don’t believe in God for their spiritual eyes to open just as Elisha prayed for his servant Gehazi in 2 Kings 6:16. Behold, there was a physical appearance of angels in the fourth overflow.

It is recorded that thousands witnessed and attested to this great miracle. Some actually shared pictures of screenshots of the apparition of these angels captured live on camera as they watched. Others took snap shots with their camera phones from their TV screens.

Many people who doubted the existence of God were convicted through this miracle and received Jesus as their Lord and personal Saviour. This, however, is just one of many peculiar miracles that God is performing through Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1 in the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG).

Below is a written excerpt of the service:

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1(prays): “We believe that you really lived and that you died but Father for the sake of those who don’t believe, open the eyes of these people that they may believe in your power.”

“Let your kingdom, your splendour, your dominion be manifest. The visible glory of your kingdom and may every problem of them disappear.”

“Father in the Name of Jesus, let your kingdom appear in this place. Your power appear in this place and take away the problems of people. In the Name of Jesus, I pray.”

Congregation: “I receive!”

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1: “In the Name of Jesus, I pray.”

congregation: “I receive!”

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri -Major 1: “Elisha prayed for the eyes of Gehazi to open. And I want to say this. Your situation. Your problem. Your current suffering will never and can never be compared to what the Lord is about to do in your life.”

Some congregants: “O yes!”

Entire congregation starts screaming and people are been hit by the power of God all through the auditorium.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1: “See angels! See angels! See angels!”

Screaming continues as angels become more visible and many are slayed in the Spirit.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1: “Angels! Angels!”

“Do you see the glory of God? Have you seen the angels?”

Some congregants not hit by this great manifestation of power: “Yes!”

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1: “Look here! Angels are here!”

“Whatever you need, begin to pray. Begin to pray. (X2)

” Begin to receive it! Begin to pray.”

Congregants start praying.

How To Become Rich

How To Become Rich

How To Become Rich by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1

Does God Want You to Be Rich…or Poor?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

– Jeremiah 29:11

One of the most perplexing issues facing Christians in the marketplace today is whether God wants us to be rich or poor. It is easy enough to find plenty of people using verses from Scripture, often out of context, to support either extreme.

Last week I heard two sermons touching on this issue:

  • One preacher expounded the virtues of the “health and wealth gospel.” He said the reason we don’t have riches and wealth is because we haven’t asked God for them.
  • The other preacher told the story of how he sold his big house, gave away everything, and moved his family into a small, two-bedroom apartment, implying that a life of poverty was more virtuous.

Ken Eldred, in his book, God is at Work, suggests that God’s view of prosperity is much more complex, and many have drifted while trying to understand it. He makes the excellent point that prosperity is neither moral nor immoral. It is amoral, or value-neutral.

Eldred writes:

There are two misguided attitudes often encountered concerning the relationship between wealth and righteous living. Some view wealth as the evil enemy of a righteous life. Others view wealth as the essential evidence of a righteous life.

Many Christians and their pastors, horrified by the perceived excesses of the “health and wealth gospel,” retreat to a romantic view of poverty which often operates under the sacred-secular divide. Again Eldred’s comments are right on point:

Wealth is seen as the evidence of a misplaced focus on secular pursuits. No roads to prosperity are acceptable, since all means of acquiring wealth involve undue emphasis on secular activities. Many who follow this line of thinking retreat from the perceived trappings of the ‘secular’ marketplace to pursue ‘sacred’ activities and pursuits.

Eldred suggests a way out of the dilemma, with which we would agree. Health and wealth are not proof of obedience to God or of sufficient faith in him. Neither are sickness and poverty proof of disobedience or lack of faith. Both extreme viewpoints miss the mark.

Eldred suggests Christians can adopt a new paradigm that views business and all work as having inherent spiritual value in and of itself. The idea of all work seen as mission radically changes the way we view normal business activity, and teaches that business can have spiritual and economic goals. Eldred writes,

Business can become a spiritual activity when it advances God’s objectives by serving others and creating products and resources.

Wealth and capital creation can be tools with which committed Christians serve God as well as their neighbor.

Eldred suggests six key truths to be discerned by careful, prayerful scrutiny of Scripture:

  1. Wealth is to be in all areas – physical, mental, material, and spiritual.
  2. Wealth is from God – he is the source of all prosperity and blessing (Matthew 7:11Deuteronomy 8:8).
  3. Wealth is to be managed – we are the stewards of the material possessions entrusted to us (1 Corinthians 10:26Matthew 25:14-30).
  4. Wealth is to be used for God’s purposes (1 Timothy 6:17-182 Corinthians 9:11).
  5. Wealth is to be enjoyed (1 Timothy 6:17).
  6. Wealth is not our source of trust – God is (Luke 12:34).

Eldred concludes his book with this important idea: “The concepts of transformation, work, business, profit, and wealth are key biblical foundations of kingdom business. If one is going to effectively do business as a mission to spread the gospel, one must first understand that God cares about people’s spiritual, social, and economic transformation, that work in the business world is both necessary and a sign of useful service, and that poverty is a social disease to be addressed.”

How To Become Rich: 4 steps

4 steps on How To Become Rich anyone can take
There are no “secrets” to getting rich overnight. But there are proven systems to get rich.

There are some repeatable, proven, systems to help you increase your wealth. There are also many foul scams promising you’ll get as rich as Scrooge McDuck — and it’s crazy how many people still fall into get-rich-quick traps even though there’s mountains of evidence that shows that they’re total scams.

Take multi-level marketing (MLM) businesses for example.

But despite all of the negative media attention, the government crackdowns, and the fact that you’re expected to spend an average of $25,000 of your own money to sustain this “career,” MLMs still managed to pull in more than $36 billion in 2015 alone.

This is an industry filled with fraud and broken promises — one in which you can reasonably expect to not only be swindled but hired to swindle others too!

MLMs aren’t the only get-rich-quick traps I see out there either. Here are a few others I’ve noticed:

  • Win the lottery. It’s common knowledge that we all have a better chance of being hit by a meteorite or struck by lightning than paying for a Tesla with an oversized Powerball check.
  • Become Instagram famous. At the risk of sounding like a crotchety old man, I remember a time when kids weren’t betting their futures on getting paid for their bad selfies.
  • Become a pro athlete. Please don’t count on this. Not only are the odds of becoming a pro-athlete incredibly small, but it also requires a lifetime of practice, iteration, and dedication to improvement. Also, who actually likes sports?

The fact is if there were truly one great way of getting-rich-quick, we’d all be doing it.

There are no “secrets” to getting rich overnight. But there are proven systems to get rich — and they take time.

However, I promise that if you take any of these 4 steps, you’re setting yourself up for long-term success. Do all 4 and you’re almost guaranteed to get rich.

  1. Invest early and often to become rich
  2. Practice conscious spending like a rich person
  3. Tap into hidden income
  4. Start your own business

How To Become Rich

Step 1: Invest early and often to become rich

The single most crucial thing you can do to ensure your financial future is investing — and the sooner you start, the easier it is to get rich.

This isn’t BS. There’s more than 100 years of evidence in the stock market that suggests this.

Still don’t believe me? Let’s look at a real world example of how to become rich by investing.

Say you’re 25 years old and you decide to invest $500/month in a low-cost, diversified index fund. If you do that until you’re 60, how much money do you think you’d have?

Take a look:

alt text here
$1,116,612.89That’s right. You’d be a millionaire after only investing a few thousand dollars per year.

Notice, I’m not talking about the Hollywood type of investing where hot-shot stockbrokers make huge multi-million dollar trades while yelling “SELL” into a phone for some reason.

Pictured: Some dude trading stocks and losing money. Not pictured: You investing in low-cost index funds and getting on with your life.

I said you should invest in low-cost, diversified index funds over time. That’s because smart investments are about consistency more than anything else — not chasing hot stocks. Or other weird investments:

The two essential ways to invest your money are straightforward:

  • 401k: Be sure to take advantage of your employer’s 401k plan by putting at least enough money to collect the employer match into it. This basically means that for every dollar you contribute, your company will match that (pre-tax!). This ensures you’re taking full advantage of what is essentially free money from your employer. That match is POWERFUL and can double your money over the course of your working life:

  • Roth IRA: Like your 401k, you’re going to want to max it out as much as possible. The amount you are allowed to contribute goes up occasionally. Currently you can contribute up to $5,500 each year.

Note: If $500/month sounds like a lot, read all the ways you can free up that money with just a few phone calls.

How To Become Rich

Step 2: Practice conscious spending like a rich person

Anyone who knows me knows that I detest ultra-frugality — otherwise known as the lifestyle of clipping coupons and sacrificing things like lattes for the sake of saving money.

Unlike a lot of people you see in the personal finance world, I’m not ashamed of how I spend lots of money on things I enjoy like eating out, traveling, or nice clothes.

And that’s all because I practice conscious spending. It’s the same system my friend uses in order to spend more than $21,000 on going out. I’d never tell you to skip on spending on the things that make you happiest. Just do so purposefully, and by avoiding the mindless spending that can come from disorganized finances.

Setting up the system might seem hard — but in the end, it’s all about:

  1. Automating your finances.
  2. Knowing where your money goes so you’re in complete control of the situation.

Automating your finances allows your system to work for you and passively do the right thing instead of you constantly wondering if you have enough money to spend. Or, getting your credit card bill each month, shrugging, and saying to yourself, “Yeah, I guess I spent that much.”

And it’s simple: at the beginning of the month, when you receive your paycheck, the money is immediately sent to where it needs to go through automatic systems that you have set up already.

Some spending recommendations for your system:

  • 50%-60% Fixed Costs: This includes things like utilities, rent, internet, and debt.
  • 10% Investments: This includes your Roth IRA and 401k plan.
  • 5%-10% Savings: This is money that goes towards things like vacations, weddings, home down payments, and unexpected expenses.
  • 20-35% Guilt-free Spending: Fun money! Spend this on anything you want from nice dinners to movies.

Why automatic?Because as humans we have incredibly limited willpower. It’s so limited in fact that it can render things like paying bills and putting money away in your savings each month a very difficult task.

Automating your finances subverts this by allowing you to save money without ever having to do it yourself.

How To Become Rich

Step 3: Tap into “hidden income”

I’m not talking about piles of cash buried somewhere in your backyard — this is the money that you can be saving right now by negotiating your bills.

That’s right. With just a few one-time, 5-minute phone calls, you can save HUNDREDS a month on bills for your:

  • Car insurance
  • Cell phone plan
  • Gym membership (less likely but still possible)
  • Cable
  • Credit card

It’s simple too — there are only 3 things you need to do to negotiate with these companies on fees and rates:

  1. Call them up.
  2. Tell them, “I’m a great customer, and I’d hate to have to leave because of a simple money issue.”
  3. Ask, “What can you do for me to lower my rates?

Of course, you’re going to want to adjust this formula for whatever company you’re calling. Check out my video on negotiating your bills for more on this topic.

Bonus: For the exact word-for-word scripts that I used to negotiate my bills, download the Ultimate Guide to Personal Finance.

Along with your bills, you can also be EARNING more money through salary negotiation.

This is actually one of the easiest and fastest way to earn more money.

In fact, a one-time salary increase of $5,000 — properly invested — adds up to over $1,300,000 by the time you retire.

line graph no caption
1-time salary increase of $5000 invested and compounded after 40 years: 1,398,905.20!And in many cases, getting a raise only takes a single, 15-minute conversation with your boss.

Remember the chart from above showing the effect of $500/month?

You can meet this goal with ONE salary negotiation. If you’re interested in learning how to boost your income for life, check out my Ultimate Guide to Salary Negotiation (it’s free). It includes HD videos, word-for-word negotiation scripts, and walks you through each step in the process of getting a raise.

My favorite part: You’re already getting paid. Why not get the most out of every paycheck?

It’s a quick win, and you should absolutely capitalize on it. But if you’re looking for something that takes a bit more time — with a lot more upside — you should consider starting a business of your own.

How To Become Rich

Step 4: Start your own business

This is my all-time favorite answer to the question “how to become rich?” I’ve always believed that there’s a limit to how much money you can save — but no limit to how much you can earn.

This is especially true if you start your own online business.

From my years of experience not only running my own business but teaching scores of people to start their own as well, I’ve found that there are two great ways to start a business:

  1. Turn the skills you already have into a side hustle.
  2. Start an online business and reach millions of people all over the world.

Side Hustle

This is one of the fastest ways to get started in business. By utilizing the skills and talents at your disposal, you can start freelancing and generating a steady source of income on the side.

If you choose this option, you can quietly earn an extra thousand dollars a month on the side, like these students did.

And the best part: you don’t even have to quit the job you already have.

Online Business

With an online business, you can reach millions of people on the internet every day while scaling your product to help you earn millions online.

Don’t believe me? Check out just a few different ways you can make $1 million online.

  • 250,000 people spending $4
  • 100,000 spending $10
  • 50,000 people spending $20
  • 10,000 people spending $100
  • 1,000 people spending $1,000

Could you find 1000 people to buy from you over the next few years? I think so.

To start an online business, you need to choose from 6 different models:

  1. Software (including apps)
  2. Physical products
  3. Advertising
  4. Affiliate marketing
  5. Coaching
  6. Online courses

Obviously, there’s a lot that goes into creating a business based on these models — getting traffic, building an audience, launching a product etc. — but it’s all completely doable.

Plus you can automate your online business so once you frontload the work, the business keeps paying you again and again, even while you sleep.

Over the years, I’ve shown thousands of students how to build businesses just like that. Click here to see some examples of the businesses they’ve built. see: How to become a millionaire in 7 easy steps
