Does God Want Me to Prosper?

So the laws of prosperity will work for anyone who will meet the biblical requirements to walk in them. God’s will concerning financial prosperity and abundance is clearly revealed in the Bible.

God has always promised, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” (Isaiah 1:19). Understand though, that being willing means more than just saying, “Well, Lord, if You want me to prosper, I’ll prosper.” Being willing means you apply the force of your will and determine to receive by faith what God has promised, no matter how impossible the circumstances may seem to be. And why does God want us to prosper? The Bible says, “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth” (Ephesians 4:28).

The whole purpose for gainful employment and prosperity is to take God’s laws and prosper by them, and then do something about the poverty in the rest of the world. Some rich people don’t want to do anything but stay rich. But if you reach out and preach the gospel to a born-again man in Africa, he has some hope for the first time in his life. He learns that God wants to prosper him and his people. To the starving man that doesn’t mean a Cadillac! It means that God will show him how to get some rain on his scorched ground.

The gospel not only gives people hope in the Kingdom to come, but through Jesus and the message that God wants to prosper His people, it gives people hope in the here and now! God’s will is prosperity.

Favour plays a major role in the prospering of a person. Exodus 12 [36] And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required . And they spoiled the Egyptians.

The children of Israel had spent much time struggling for four centuries doing many things right and wrong, working hard like slaves until a day came – totally undeserved – in which they were given everything they asked for. It did not matter that it was in the sight of their oppressors that they got favour such that the wealth of Egypt was transferred to them without the slightest dispute. Divine favour led to favour with men which led to transfer of riches.

Psalm 112[1] Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. [2] His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. [3] Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

This article summarises bible verses that prescribe conditions and lessons related to being favoured with prosperity by God.

  • I must fear the Lord to be prospered by Him. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of the wisdom. Wisdom is said to be a defence even as money is a defence. Wisdom comes when we fear the lord.
  • I must depart from evil. Job 22[23] If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. [24] Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. [25] Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. Psalm 5[12] For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
  • Doing the commandments of God and aligning with His will brings prosperity. Isaiah 1[19] If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: [20] But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it .
  • Humility: God resists the proud, looking at them only from afar. The Bible teaches that before honour is humility. Therefore the favoured finds a special grace that can only adorn the humble.
  • God seeks worshippers: In seeking who to favour, the Bible tells us God seeks worshippers who worship in Spirit and in truth. King David- well known as an incurable worshipper – was extremely wealthy. When God finds a true worshipper, He is moved to favour the person. John 4:23-24.
  • Those who love God, loving what God loves and hating what He hates will be favoured. Proverbs 8[17] I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. [18] Riches and honour are with me; yea , durable riches and righteousness.

Loving God is not the same as loving the world and we deceive ourselves to imagine we can do both. God loves souls for that is why He sacrificed His only son; so that He may have so many more children – joint-heirs. Those who love winning souls also love God. Indeed, they love what God loves.

Hebrews 1[9] Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

  • God loves a cheerful giver2 Corinthians 9 [7] Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Cheerfulness is important when you are dealing with God. God deals well with us in return when our interactions with Him especially when we give are cheerful. This communicates an adoration that inspired the hymn writer to write;

If the whole realm of nature were mine, it were an offering far too small, love so amazing so divine; demands my soul my life my all….

Prayer: Lord, take all of me and give me all of you even as you surround me with your favour. Teach me to fear you, love you, depart from evil and do all your will. Amen
